I am a simple girl & I like the tried & true.
WARNING: Men may find this post to be filled with too much "girly info." Stop reading if you are uncomfortable with womanly issues. At the beginning of January I was given the Depo Provera shot. A form of birth control that lasts for 3 months. The big reason behind choosing this instead of my normal form of b.c. - the pill - was because I was breastfeeding and didn't want my milk flow to get screwed up. I was told the Depo shot was a good choice for breastfeeding moms. I'll be honest, I thought it sounded great - one shot that lasts 3 months - what could be wrong with that? Well, let me tell you. How about a non-stop period for over 2 months! While this is a normal side effect of being on the shot, it's not for me. I don't like a week long period, let alone one that has no end in sight. After my umpteenth box of tampons I was fed up and made my appt. to switch back to the good ol' pill. Proving that "new & improved" is not always better.
Ah, the joys of being a woman. I personally hate the 2 month period after giving birth. Glad you are switching back to what you're used to!
ReplyDeleteOh man, that would be awful. I've found that when I start a new pack each month my supply goes down for the first 4-5 days, but if I remember to chug the water, then it seems to be okay. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI don't like birthcontrol at all. I don't know that I will ever go back on it, but if I do, I will probably return to the Nuvaring. It has worked great for me.
ReplyDeleteI just have to say that your baby is so freaking cute! Honestly, one of the cutest babies I have ever seen.
oh yes...the bloody shot (pun and no pun intended). one of Jar's good friends wifes had that shot and seriously blead for an ENTIRE YEAR! WHAT?! Toss the shot for sure huh!?
ReplyDeleteI stopped taking the birth control while nursing Valerie but I continue taking it with Jackson, and PRAY that my milk doesnt slim-down.
Ewww! Who knew? Note to self, just say "no" to Depo shots!
ReplyDeleteHeather! I sorry you went through that! You should have called and asked me. I worked in women's health for over three years. I"m glad you found what works. Besides, if you are on depo and want to get pregnant again, it takes a lot longer.
ReplyDeleteOh my... my sister had the same problem. That totally stinks!!!
ReplyDeleteEven pills messed me up for a long time, but we were working with my messed-up system to start with... currently on the "out-of-shape" method, LOL.
But yeah, I don't know whether, knowing what I know now, I'd do anything at all in that department aside from *ahem* physical barriers. Hormones are just WACKY.
Hope you recover soon from that horrible shot!!!
Oh my gosh, that sucks! I can't take birth control because it has too many hormones for me. Plus- I forget to take it. hehe. But and IUD obviously inst the answer either (you heard about my mess?), so I don't know what I am gonna do when it comes time for me to make that decision. GOOD LUCK! Hope everything gets back to normal :) All us poor woman!
ReplyDeletehooray for ortho tri cyclen lo (my guess)! i support your decision and if i was smart enough to get my butt to the doctor i would make that choice as well; best of luck!
ReplyDeleteOnce I decide that BC is right for us again... I think I'll have to go to the NuvaRing. Depo just didn't sound so good after reading your post...
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I haven't had even a week long period in over three years! How, you ask? the IUD... tiny amount of hormone, lasts up to five years, and no terrible side effects. You should ask your doc about it!
ReplyDeleteoh- and it has caused me, and numerous other women, to not have any period at all. thus the three years of no bleeding- don't miss it at all!
ReplyDeleteOh man! What torture! I'd switch back too. (One thing to be thankful for that I don't have to deal with - birth control - he he).
ReplyDeleteI'm not a birth control gal. It makes me fat and emotional. But if I was, the best one I found is the Nuva Ring. Way better than trying to remember a pill every night.
