It's Monday. Meet someone new, or just get better acquainted.
I knew I loved this girl when I learned of her adoration for cupcakes, greasy burgers, bold colors, Singing in the Rain (the movie, not the actual act - although I think she would enjoy that), craft projects, and her overall love of life, and, of course, her willingness to be my first "Monday mugshot."So please, take this chance to get to know Mrs. Naomi Davis of Rockstar Diaries and the lovely Etsy shop, Taza & the prince. She is quite the gem, and I just know you're going to love her too. And, if you already know of this lil' lady, you might just learn a new thing or two as you read through her interview.
OK, here we go.
NAOMI:
When did you really develop your style? (red lips, bold colors, headbands, etc)
I don't know. Good question. I've always liked to do my own thing. I think it all just sort of evolves from day to day.
What is your biggest pet peeve?
When the shower curtain is not closed.
When men don't give their seats up on the subway to pregnant women or the elderly.
When some women dress 7 sizes too small and you're forced to see too much skin hanging out all over the place.
(Sorry, that was three. But they are all my biggest.)
Was it your plan to always go to New York to attend Juilliard? Or did you go for love?
Not for love, I didn't meet my future husband until the end of my sophomore year at Juilliard. And we didn't even start dating right away.

And actually, it wasn't always my plan to go to Juilliard, but it started to feel really good around application time. I flew to Austin TX with my mom for one of their regional auditions back in spring of 2004 when I was 17. I didn't tell a soul I was auditioning but my family. I didn't expect in a million years to get in and I didn't want to set myself up for a major let down. (I'd been rejected A LOT prior to the audition in the dancing world. It's a really tough place to exist and feel confident or good about yourself at times.) I expected to be cut after the first part of the audition but somehow that didn't happen. When they called a week later to tell me I got in, it was surreal. One of the best moments of my life.
I moved to NYC the following fall of 2004 when I was 18. And oddly enough, not only did I fall in love with NYC and Juilliard, but I also met and fell in love with a wonderful man.
When did the "best burger" hunt come about? Have you and Mr. Davis always been burger fans? I think it started out because my husband and I both disagreed on who made the best burger in NYC sometime last summer. Since then, we've also been hunting down the best milkshakes, fries and cupcakes in NYC.
Where does the name "Taza" come from? Well, funny story. My love started calling me that when we got engaged. He thought it was the perfect nickname since I am in love with teacups. He speaks Italian and thought it meant TEACUP. Turns out, it doesn't mean anything in Italian. But if you spell it with two z's, like Tazza, it means MUG in italian! Taza with one z is the spanish translation for TEACUP ...but we still just pretend it's the italian version because we're silly like that.
If you had to relive the same day over and over: what would you eat? what would you do? what would you watch? what would you read? what would you wear? I would eat strawberries, french bread with rhubarb jam and seafood paella. I would dance barefoot by myself to Beirut and have a little tea party in the park. I would watch the sun rise and set. I would reread every David Sedaris book. I would wear the most beautiful yellow sundress and light pink apron and I would truly be in heaven.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? I am hopeful I will be a mother. Hopeful to still be creating little things and dancing a little everyday. I hope I have a big garden by then and am even happier than I am now.... and hopefully I will be speaking another language fluently.
(And there you have it folks, Mrs.Naomi Davis. To learn more and to bask in all that is Naomi, don't forget to visit her blog. Don't forget to check back next week for the next edition of "Monday mugshot.")

This was a fun post! I discovered Rockstar Diaries a few months ago. Cutest couple! And I love her Etsy headbands. Too bad I can't pull that look off...
