just you & me kid

"You and me, staring contest, go!"
"You don't even blink do you?"
Goulet!
Like most of my days, it was just me and Rowan today. From morning to night, just me and the kid. It's hard when Jon doesn't get home until 7 pm. It only leaves an hour for family time or daddy and son time, then Rowan has to go to bed. It's hard for me because the majority of my day is spent with no adult interaction and no adult conversation. Very lonely and isolating. Some days are harder than others. Today was particularly hard. I ended up watching a lot of TV just so I could see and hear other adults. That is one perk of house-sitting, a TV for baby and a TV for mom. Don't get me wrong, I love being a stay -at- home mom. I love spending the day with my son. I just don't think I knew being a stay -at- home mom could be so hard and emotional at times.

On top of all that, we have some big decisions to make in the next couple of months. Everyone, that means me and Jon, is stressed. Hopefully we end up making the right choice(s) for our family and feel good about the outcome.

  3. I hear ya. Same thing happened with my first. There are lots of perks to just having one kid versus two, but there are some advantages to having siblings too....they entertain each other. The best thing I did while in the stage of just one kid and myself was have at least one small outing each day. Grocery store, mall, park, something to break the day up a bit. Library story time is great. Get a group of moms together for a park day or mall walking day once a week, etc. Anything to get you both out of the house and talking with other people.

If you're ever going crazy, feel free to give me a call too. We'll just plug in the bluetooth and chat away over the general background noise of whining boys. :)

  6. It does get easier! Promise! I remember when it was just Claire, I was going out of my mind, and went and got a part-time job at the Gap working one night a week just to maintain my sanity. Don't stress too much! Everything will work out! My offer still stands for you and Rowan to come with us... I'm thinking around June 22! Let me know if your down!

  9. Such an expressive boy! I completely understand. I'm actually glad you wrote this blog. The earliest Walker gets home each night is 6:30. And last night he had to work until 10:00. Anyway, I got a little crazy but am glad summer is here so we can get out and do more things. My mom probably gets annoyed that I call her so often, but I really dig that adult conversation!

  10. I feel your pain cutie. It is really hard at times. Hubs will always so "no, you don't want to go to work" and he's right, I don't. But I would like some variation, some adult interaction, some change of scenery, some adult interaction. With my first I remember the hardest part was being the one that was responsible for Jason. If he cried I had to get him. No one else was there, and he wouldn't stop crying unless I helped...all the time. Hopefully today was better for you! WAY CUTE PICTURE. I could eat him up.

I know how you feel. I need the adult conversation but I don't like doing it via phone. I'd rather be in person. I'm just not one that likes to talk on the phone. I'd rather chat online, email, or talk in person. Lately, I'm glued to the computer on facebook or blogs. Not really a good idea but I can't help it!

It seems like it was such a long time ago since I only had one. I don't remember what I did to keep my sanity. Oh yeah, I watched a lot of movies. I think that's when I finally read the first 5 Harry Potter books and watched Little House on the Prairie on my mother in law's dvds. And "Five Mile Creek" series.

I think you just need to find another mom to be friends with and have play days. (Easier said than done)

  12. I love that picture! So cute. Your little man is just adorable. I also know how you feel. It is real hard being a stay at home mom. It's great but extremely lonely when your husband is not home. I'm there with ya. I think that's why I like working a couple nights a week. I get some grown up, normal life mixed in with the being a mom, and I also only miss a couple hours with Emma because for half the time she is asleep so I don't feel like I missing out as much. Well hang in there. I hope tomorrow brings a better day for you.

  13. You get the most perfect pictures, I love it.
Days with just you and the babe can be rather boring and difficult....but try to soak up all that togetherness, cause once you start adding more kids to the mix, you start to miss those one on one days.
at least for now you have a glorious pool to use! :)
good luck with your big decision, whatever it might be!

  16. Yep, you gotta get out. And make a point of it every day! I try to do one or two things out of my house daily. That way you can get interaction and it helps the kid to learn to be more flexible, too. Good luck!
