Happy Birthday America.

Jon ended up taking the fourth off, which I was very happy about.  We were able to spend the whole day together as a family doing a variety of fun things.  Of course we started the day off by hitting up the Layton city parade decked out in our red, white, and blue.  Jon's shirt is technically a Christmas shirt, but it was red so who cares.  I got Rowan a cheap tank top at Target that said "Little Fire Cracker."
Rowan had a good time clapping, yelling, dancing, and waving his little flag around.  He was excited about the candy until he tried it.  Taffy doesn't do it for him apparently.  We kept collecting it as they threw it out non the less because Jon and I will gladly eat it.

After the parade ended we ate some lunch and then headed over to Uncle Aaron and Aunt Erica's house for some fun in the sun.  It wasn't really sunny, but hey, the kids still had fun!  Once it started to sprinkle we headed inside for leftover cake.  Then nap time came so we loaded up and headed home.

Rowan couldn't keep his eyes open for the short car ride home, and went down easy-peasy once inside.  I took a nap too, and since Jon isn't much of a napper he worked on the computer.

Since watching the fire works show is so easy near Jon's parent's house we headed there in the evening.  We didn't feel like fighting crowds, finding a parking spot, and taking an hour to get out of parking lot at 11pm, so we were all for driving out of our way to see them.  We played a game and then made a mad dash for the car when we realized that the show had started.  (Jon thought it started at ten, but after hearing some booms and bangs we quickly realized he was wrong.)  We caught the last ten minutes or so.
It was fun, and Rowan seemed to enjoy the fireworks much more this year.  He is now saying, "sky" and "awesome" thanks to the fourth and the few days leading up to it.  (Awesome sounds more like "awe-suh.")
