OK, so let's backtrack to Friday- moving day #1. Jon had to work, but I was going to head over to the new place, get keys, sign papers, and begin moving small things. Jon and I would continue that night when he got home from work and we'd try to de-clutter as much as possible since the guys from church were coming over Saturday morning to help with the big stuff. I get to our new apartment complex- and go into the office. It is then that I found out that Jon has to be there too before she can give me keys because we both have to sign the papers. I give Jon a call and tell him that he'll have to leave work and come sign these papers. He does, we sign , get keys, leave the office, kiss Jon good-bye, and I head to the new place. I open the door to the new place and immediately notice that the carpet in the living room/kitchen area is NASTY. Seriously, parts of it were black- not exaggerating one bit. I call the office right away to ask about getting new carpet put in. They call me back about ten minutes later and say, "Heather there has been a big mistake." Oh great. I am thinking they have given us an apt. that was leased to someone else or something. Office lady continues, "Your carpet was suppose to have been replaced." Of course she goes on to tell me how this boo-boo is not the complexes fault but the carpet guys. Fine- I don't care- just get it fixed so I can get moved in. I tell her I will put all the things I have moved in on counters and shelves so it will be out of the carpet guys way. I tell her that the carpet has to get done that day because the next day is the one day we have guys helping us with big stuff. She says she will call when she knows more. Oh, and I also have to run to Jon's work to get a copy of his photo i.d. because they forgot to get it from him when he was there. One more thing for me to do. Alright so I get a copy of Jon's i.d. and head back to the apt. to start loading up my car again. I run some errands and wait for the call from the office so I know when I can return. Finally around 4 office lady calls to tell me that the carpet guy is on his way (just now!?). I ask her to call me again when she knows how long it will take him because Jon and I have to get things moved over that night. She calls me around 6 to say that the guy showed up at about 5 and that it will take him around 3 hours. OK, so Jon and I plan to head over at 8. While at our old apt. making numerous trips up and down stairs and outside to the cars Jon manages to step in some rocks that have fire ants in them- he tears off his shoe sees all these ants and runs upstairs to our apt. to wash them off. His foot is covered in HUGE red bites and the itch is driving him nuts. After loading up the truck Jon had borrowed and packing my car to the roof we didn't even get there until 8:45. And guess what? The carpet guy is still there!! Not only that but as soon as we park the cars Jon jumps out of the truck and runs over to my car and says, "I left the door open and Miles is inside!" OK, so Jon takes my car back to the old apartment to find our dog who by this point has probably wandered outside and down the street and of course to see if we have been robbed. I sit in the truck and wait for the carpet guy to finish- in the mean time I call my mom and have a nice chat and tell her about my day. After I finish up with my mom I call Jon to see if he has found Miles. He says when he got to the apartment there was a note on our now closed door that said, "Your little dog was out running around so I put him inside and closed the door." Lucky for us our one sweet neighbor that we knew in the complex was outside with her dog around the time we left. As soon as Miles heard or saw her dog he bolted from the apt. to go and play with her. Sharon soon realized Jon and I were not around (strange cause we have never just let Miles wander around) and that our door was wide open. She assumes we have left for the hospital to have the baby. Bless her heart for taking care of us and our dog! And thank heavens she happened to be outside. OK, so Jon makes it back to the new place and the two of us wait about 10 more minutes and the carpet guy FINALLY finishes. We unload our things and head back for more. By this point I am craving a Pepsi the size of the sun and Jon promises me that after one more load we'll stop at Wendy's for sustenance. So around midnight I get my big Pepsi and bacon cheeseburger (which equaled a night of heartburn). We go to bed as soon as we finish eating-yes, I know doing that will make you fat, and get ready for another long day of moving. But that is another post.

Moving Adventures
Well, all of our things are now at our new apartment- not unpacked, but it's all here. We cleaned the old apt. yesterday and I will be doing the walk through Tuesday- so hopefully we'll pass with flying colors and get all of the deposit back. Of course moving can never go off without a hitch- our move had a variety of hitches, and yes, I am going to tell you all about them.
Most of our apt. looks like this- boxes, boxes, and more boxes.
However, we made it a priority to get the babe's room in order since we'll need to be able to find his things when he arrives sometime in the next 18 days.
His things are organized and I'll at least be able to change his diaper and dress him now that I know where all those things are.
Even though he wont be using his crib for a while it's all set-up and waiting for him.

at least you made it out alive, not in labor, and with miles not missing. why does that part of the story not surprise me. and at least you were able to get the carpet replaced that day. i like your bookshelf in the baby's room. good luck unpacking.
ReplyDeleteThat is definitely a crazy moving experience. Glad that everything worked out in the end, and that you didn't have a baby in the process. What's with the carpet guys?
ReplyDeleteYou know, out of all this mess you went through (sorry to Jon for stepping in the fire ants, thats terrible!, its a good thing you didnt step in the rocks, or you would have been a craving pepsi machine, uncomfortable belly pregnant momma, who now has to fight not scratching her feet)
ReplyDeleteok, so back to the "out of all this mess you went through...I am HAPPY you got new carpet. have you seen our carpet? it is wicked sick, its the old/original 70's shag, brown, and probably never been cleaned, besides from us. If we've been gone from our house for a while, we come back to the house smelling like old lady perfume and cat urine. Its sooooo sick, I remember when we moved in, I could hardly breath, I seriously was gagging when bringing our stuff in. but our managers INSISTED that the carpet had been cleaned and also that they have been trying to get the owner to replace the carpets in the row of duplexes we live in (theres 3, we're in the middle), oh yes and theyve also been "working with the owner" to get a storage/lockable shed out back.....point to my saga, we're never gonna get them. Before Jackson is born we'll clean our carpets (thanks to mom, she's got a cleaner).
I am so happy ya'll are in your bigger apt....a thrill and relief I know. :) and also happy that the men from church helped.
thanks for the update. (nice neighboor to help out with miles)
OH NO Heather!! I'm sorry to hear that! Poor Jon! Aloe Vera helps a lot! That day sounds like such a mess!!! I'm glad that you got everything settled (so to speak) you'll get there. The shelving does look very nice! Now... we await Rowan. sigh... almost there! Look forward to your mom coming to visit...
ReplyDeleteWhat a crazy day! One day you will look back and laugh about it. Hopefully when all this is over with and you are all unpacked, you will be able to relax before baby arives.
ReplyDeleteOh girl!!!!!...sorry to hear all that!!!!!...You will love your new place soon!
ReplyDeleteHoly cow! I can't wait to hear the rest of this story. I'm sorry you have to go through all this stress. It is only magnified by your being pregnant. However, it sounds like things came together. Keep your head up!
ReplyDeleteNoooo, eating keeps you (and Baby!) alive :-). Eating *too much* makes you fat ;-). I know these things ;-).
ReplyDeleteSo I'm so happy for you, that you got new carpet! Sweet!!! Poor Jon will have nice soft carpet to rest his tortured tootsies on... and Baby will have SUCH a clean place to play! :-)
But it's so nice that you have one NICE neighbor ;-). And that Miles is safe & sound :-).
And overall, I'm VERY glad you survived the day... we had one of those "moving nights" with Derek & Rachel - it was actually the night before Mom & Dad got married, LOL. We'll have to brief you sometime when we're all like, 80 years old and reminiscing about how funny life is... since we'll be able to laugh about it then ;-).
Wow, what an ordeal! I feel so sorry for Jon! Nothing worse than a itchy, hot feeling foot! That's gotta drive him nuts! The carpet looks like it was worth the wait and I really like the black shelf too! Really cute with the green. Can't wait to see the place but mostly can't wait to see Rowan!
ReplyDeleteWow you have been a busy little bee! I'm glad you're in your new apt. hopefully it will treat you better than the last one. I can't believe your baby is coming so soon! It seems just like yesterday that Jon told me you two were expecting!! Ohh I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, what an adventure. His room is adorable though. And I can't believe you have pretty much the rest of your house put together. That is awesome. Way to go! You totally must be nesting! I love all the storage you have for his room. Definitely needed. But I couldn't see what his crib set looked like. Send me a link to where you bought it or something.
