the weekend.
This was a good one. Almost perfect if not for this blasted cold I can't get rid of. Friday I dragged the hubs to the Goodwill after he got home from work. See I am really wanting to reupholster something. So I meandered over there to see what rocks-so to speak- I could turn into gems. I found two couches- one for $70 and one for $40- OK, so I am thinking $110 for two couches - sweet! Oh but wait, it gets better. I remembered that Goodwill has a sale every other Saturday and everything in the entire store is 50% off- and guess what, this weekend was THE weekend. So the couches would really be $55 if I could wait til Saturday to purchase them. (and of course be the first one to nab them- you might be thinking easy peasy- but have you ever been to the Goodwill on a Saturday SALE morning? Mayhem I tell you- pure mayhem. There was already a line of people waiting there when I got there at 8:55 Saturday morning!) Well, the hubs wasn't feeling the couches so we decided not to get them. I went to the sale Saturday morning anyways to pick up some cheap frames. After I hit the sale the hubs, me, and baby went out. First stop Costco for what is becoming a staple in our house- Pita chips. Then the hubs said it was my day- I love it when he says this cause it means I can drag him anywhere I want and he can't complain. And out of all the places I could have chosen I decided to hit up more thrift stores. So glad I did. Not only did we have a super fun time but I even found some stuff. A cute little mirror in perfect condition for $4- originally $8. And at the Savers (which can I tell you has an even sweeter sale then Goodwill) a couch that was $40, but was on sale for $20- but, get this, on Monday it will be 99 cents! Ah yea, jackpot! First stop Monday morning- Savers for my 99 cent couch that will be my first victim of re upholstery. We also found the most darling vintage school desk that we want to buy for Rowan. It too is a fixer-upper but we have a vision and it is going to be awesome. We just have to wait for it to go on sale & hope it does not sell in the mean time. Saturday evening was spent eating chips & salsa (we're addicted right now) and laughing with (possibly at) the baby for being just too dang cute. The things that crack this kid up I tell you - hilarious. Sunday I was sick so the hubs went to church and taught our class while I attempted to get some rest (it's hard when the baby is not sleeping). I got our Christmas decor down and in storage so now I can check that off the to-do list. We then proceeded to watch Finding Neverland (gets my water works going every time!) while the hubs put a chair/rocker/swing (yes, it's all 3) together for Rowan. And it made me happy. Sitting there with my boys while the hubs did a fatherly thing for his son. After Rowan fell asleep I was able to finish up my craft- the crayon roll. I again had a happy moment as I sat at my sewing machine. The sewing machine that the hubs just bought for me out of the blue a couple years ago just cause I said in passing that I wanted to learn to sew. What a sweet man. The hubs and I laughed about my silly crafts which he seems to understand how to do better then I do. But he is a dear and supports me and all my crazy ideas and tells me not to give-up. I am so lucky to have two beautiful boys - one who is sleeping away in his crib (and looking cute doing it) and another to snuggle up to in my own bed. What more could a girl ask for? Perhaps a longer weekend.
I love those days and moments, cherish them. Glad you are doing so well.
ReplyDeleteYou are great for finding the good sale! 99 cents? Be sure to post pictures of your finished projects!
ReplyDeleteAw....thrift stores. I LOVE them. But I can't say I am as motivated as you are to actually reupolster an entire couch......no thanks. But I am excited to see how wonderful you do! :)
ReplyDeleteNothing better than a smokin deal, its like a drug to me...I get a huge high from it!
What a wonderful post. Brought a smile to my face. Can't wait to see the finished products.
ReplyDeleteYAY! I can't wait to see the re-upholstered couch! You can do it! If I can, you can! REALLY!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are so happy! It's so nice to be content with the things that are important! Hubby and son! Love ya and I'm so proud of the little wife/mother you've become!
I did half of my Christmas shopping at Saver's this year. Sometimes you can find some awesome deals. Hope you got the couch you wanted.
ReplyDeleteJon sounds like he is a sweat husband. I want to see pictures of this couch for .99 cents. I'm impressed with your desire to reupholster something. Are you going to sew the new covering?
ReplyDeleteyuck that you caught a cold. But, wonderful that it was "your day".
ReplyDeleteHeather dont you just love Costco? I seriously love that place. Theres a few things we always buy there:
non edible: Gas, Toilet paper, paper towels, diapers and wipes, trash bags, laundry detergent.
edible: Brach's treetop fruit snacks (YUM), Ravioli, every now and then the chicken chimichongas in the orange bag, frozen green beans.
Valerie and I dig the cheap hotdog and pizza after a shop there.
I LOVE COSTCO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
oh ya, I forgot, silly me.
ReplyDeleteROWAN LOOKS SO CUTE FLYING, hes a natural! You know all you have to do is put his arms above his head and he'll almost have a perfect under water stream line just after a kick turn. Maybe he'll be a swimmer like his Aunt Hillary. :)
Jackson has Rowan's same bib.
Those are seriously my most favorite moments: the whole fam together, doing productive things without the tv blaring in the backround, and just enjoying each other's company... nothing better.
