Meet Bertha

ain't she purty?
And she only cost me .99 cents. Actually I have already found one quarter inside her guts, so actually she cost .75 cents. By the time I finish gutting her I may actually make money off of her. Oh, and this picture doesn't do her dirtiness justice. In this photo she doesn't look half bad- but trust me she's dirty, torn, and probably smelly, but I am trying not to breath her in. I am really excited about this undertaking and already have the sides and back ripped off. Hard dirty work, but I think this will be a rewarding project. I'll be sure to post the "after," but don't expect it anytime soon. This will probably take a good month (minimum) if I want to do it right.

How do you like this beauty?
When the hubs picked up the couch for me he also grabbed this cause he knows I love it. I would have waited for it to go on sale but it wasn't happening anytime soon & I did not want to risk losing this diamond in the rough. It cost $13, but come on, it's rad, and of course is going to look even better when we're through with it. I can just picture little Rowan coloring away at his little desk (with cubby under the seat) someday when he is a little bigger. I love old stuff. Again, another post to come on this as well, but first things first, I have a big nasty couch to finish up so I can D.I. my other one. 2 couches in one small living room is too cozy for me.

Happy hunting at thrift stores everyone!

  2. OH WOW! They are both awesome! Bertha won't be difficult! REALLY! The hardest thing will be the corners on the two end cushions! The rest will be easy! Nice woodwork on her legs and what a STEAL! WAY TO GO LITTLE LADY! The desk reminds me of some I had in school! Rowan will love it in a couple of years! I'm proud of ya!

  6. Awesome! I am excited to see the couch when it's all done! Then you can tell me how to do it so I can do my own couches! The desk is great! I used to have one like that, but I had to give it back to the original owner... I had space issues! Good luck!

Bonnie found a desk similar to yours and re-did hers too, its cute it has Emma's name on ie with ABC and an apple I think, but her kids use it all the time.

Maybe you can keep bertha's fabric and make some kitchen curtains. Auh ya baby.
Bertha was the name for your "blue bertha" car, do you remember?
