bees!

I hate bees.
At our first apartment here in Arizona we had a problem with ants. Well, ants are sounding pretty good right about now considering that my latest varmint to fight off is bees!

I got home from grocery shopping and as I was unlocking the front door I noticed a bee in the blinds by my door- INSIDE my house. I got inside and lucky for me it was Rowan's nap time, so I put him safely in his crib away from bees. Well, when I got to the blinds I heard lots of buzzing, and quickly realized that there was not one bee, but lots and lots of bees. I grabbed a bottle of ammonia and a towel. On the right and left side of my door there are long rectangular windows with blinds. There were bees in each section. I sprayed those ones with ammonia. Well, after I thought I had killed them all I still hear buzzing, so I look up and notice bees are coming from the light fixture in our front foyer. Those ones I spray with ammonia and smack with the towel as they fall or fly out. I taped up the fixture, since it has no covering, and soon realized that that had to have been where the bees were coming from, because after it was taped up I counted six bees in there when originally there were only 2. Gross. I hope we don't have anymore run-ins. I've realized just how paranoid you get when you have a small baby in the house to protect.

  1. Eww Gross. The only bees I like are from the book, "The Secret Life of Bees." Other than that, well they can stay outside where they belong!

  2. You better have the apartment complex do something about that. And I can't believe how brave you are! I would have been running for the hills as soon as I realized there were more than one!

  4. That totally sucks. There is nothing worse then feeling like your home is being taken over by little creatures. Right after I had Jane we left town to take advantage of maternity leave. When I came home there were box elder bugs all over in her bedroom. They had laid eggs all over her new curtains which ruined them and all over in her bassinet. I probably killed hundreds of those stupid bugs. Lets just say I was one happy mama when we moved from that apartment.

  7. Yikes! That's scary to think you had all those bees in there, especially with little Rowan. Glad you got em.

  8. OH man!!! True how differently you looks at creepy creatures when you have kids! Have you not had any scorpion run ins yet? We found several lurking in our house in SG, even with monthly sprays! Talk about paranoia for tummy time!
    Hope you squashed that prob!
