As Jon and I were driving around the Salt Lake Valley one day we spotted this. Have some extra healthriders laying around collecting dust and using up space in your home? Don't D.I. them, use them as yard decor! Functional and decorative at the same time! Ha ha, hilarious.
Rowan and I visited my mom last month, and she sent me back to Utah with Easter treats that I would then hand off to my sister-in-law. Well, the treats were in a grocery bag on the kitchen table, and at about 3 am I was woken by a weird noise. It sounded like our dog was playing with a marble or something. Then a light bulb went off and I realized that my dog had gotten on the table and ripped into the Easter goodies. How do I know this? Because he did it to Rowan's goodie bag earlier the previous day. Anyone want a dog? I ran out to the kitchen and it looked like an Easter bag massacre had taken place. I was livid. I yelled for Jon because if he didn't come get his dog he was likely never to see the little poop again. We cleaned up the mess, salvaged what was salvageable, and crawled back into bed. I repackaged the goodies and bought more candy before handing them off to Jill and kids.
Rowan is still cute as ever. Growing like a weed and getting into everything. It seems he discovers how to open more and more doors everyday. He's becoming quite the climber as well. He puked a couple times the other day (of course he does it AFTER his dad leaves for 3 weeks!) and ended up getting to sleep with me that night so I could hear him if he started puking again in the middle of the night. It was a loooong night. What a bed hog!
Us the morning after the blizzard in our hotel room.
We had quite the adventure the Monday after Easter Sunday. After spending most of the day in Salt Lake we headed home at around 9:00 pm. The weather had slowly been getting worse and worse. By the time we made it to the freeway it was snowing pretty hard. It was the kind of snow that makes you feel like you're driving through space. You know what I am talking about? You know, when it's coming straight at the windshield and you feel like you should be driving a spaceship and not a car. Visibility was horrid already, so it doesn't help that the lights on our car are pretty much useless. Believe me, there has been numerous times I have thought my lights weren't even turned on only to discover that they were on - they just stink. There was much backseat driving going on. Mostly me telling Jon to slow down. Well, right after the first Layton exit heading North we came to a complete standstill on the freeway. We sat there for a good 10-15 minutes without moving. By this point I am on the verge of tears and freaking out. Why? Oh let me tell you. Did I mention that our little car is pathetic in the snow, has NO HEATER and therefore no defrost? Yeah, that was the car we were in in these blizzard like conditions. Well, at one point Jon opens his door to look behind us, and there are NO CARS. At first we were like, "What the?!" Then we realize that the exit is just behind us a ways. I immediately was like, "Turn around and get us off of here before we get stuck!" So we did. We turned around on the freeway and drove south on the northbound lane. We totally passed a cop who was probably on his way to the accident. We manage to get off the freeway, and now we're driving through a section of Layton we aren't familiar with. (It was an obscure Layton exit) I am still freaking out because the roads are horrible and the snow is thick because this was a freak storm, so the plows weren't out. After multiple times of almost getting stuck we made it to the main area of Layton where the mall is, and thank heavens, HOTELS! I actually had to convince my husband to let us stay in a hotel! He seriously wanted to keep going. He was like, "Heather, I can see." Ha ha, fine, whatever. You can't see didly squat, this car stinks in the snow, there is no defrost, it's almost midnight, and it's still snowing - PULL OVER and check us into the hotel! That was basically my response to him. FINALLY he gives up and gets us a room. I had never been so relieved in my life to be out of my car, and safe in a hotel room with my little family! We didn't get much sleep because of Rowan (he doesn't sleep if he's not contained in a crib or pack n'play) but I think he finally passed out after 2-3 hours of tossing, turning, kicking, and smacking us in the face with body parts. It was still worth the $90 bucks to stay there. Jon loaded up his plate at the continental breakfast in an attempt to get his $90 worth. We got home just fine that morning, and the good people at the Hampton Inn scraped off our car! Sweet huh? That is my plug for the Hampton Inn - stay there, they scrape your car after snow storms!
That is us in a nutshell. Jon is gone right now working on a film set in Helper, Utah. Rowan and I will get to see him this Sunday for a few hours. We're meeting him in Provo. He'll be back in May.
If you made it through all that, good for you! Give yourself a pat on the back!

Wow, that story sounds like you're in the middle of winter! Glad you are safe. Those exercise machines in the yard is hilarious. But I guess if I lived right next door to them I wouldn't be laughing. I'd want them to get rid of it, lol.
ReplyDeleteHey, come see us or hang out when you are down here. If you know what time, we can feed ya'll. We have church from 1-4. Call me!
ReplyDeletei hate snow, we will never move there after that story. love you!
ReplyDeleteWe drove back from Las Vegas during that storm. I think we were slightly ahead of it, then we stopped in Spanish Fork to eat and ended up in the eye of the storm the rest of the way home! My dad was driving and we were in a suburban so luckily I still felt pretty safe. My brother was riding in another car and they had to pull over and get a hotel room too. Stupid weather. Can't it just stay nice?
ReplyDeleteSooooooooo glad your blogging again! I miss your great STORIES! I keep telling you, you need to write a book!! I'M SERIOUS!!
ReplyDeleteI hate driving in the snow. So glad you convinced Jon to stop and get a hotel.
ReplyDeleteAnd you are still a better blogger than I am.
And when are we going to get together? Let me know what your schedule is like!
wow heather just wow! glad you all made it back okay. gee... that's sounds like the story chris and I could have been in if we had left hours after we did the day we left for Texas. Crazy storm! well that's a story to tell any day!
ReplyDeleteRowan is one cute little boy! Good to see him again. :)
ReplyDeleteYAY! Glad you're back! It sounds like the storm we drove through to come and see you guys before we went to OK! Glad you were our awesome "hotel" that time :) I know you're a busy lady but I look forward to more posts...Rowan looks SO cute and SO much bigger! oh, and I love you're snow-storm-family portrait :)
ReplyDeletegirl! you were soo close to us! why didn't you gave us a call???you totally could have stayed with us!
ReplyDeleteYou know where I live!!! You could have stayed with me. I had a place for Rowan to sleep & you & Jon could sleep on the hideaway bed, the cats don't usually venture in that area of the house. Silly Girl! Oh well, I'm glad you stayed somewhere though so you could feel safe & I doubt I could have competed with the breakfast in the morning. I would have just said to fend for yourself & eat cereal.
