Summer activities continue. When I don't feel like leaving the house, or can't think of somewhere free to take Rowan, we bust out the craft supplies. Rowan is amassing quite the art collection. I like Becky Higgin's idea of scanning your child's art and compiling all the images into a book. I plan to do that one of these days- after I finish the million other things I need to do. For now, the art projects are occupying the top shelf in Rowan's closet.
Rowan's new thing is making sound effects for what he wants. Like if we happen to have whipped cream, he says, "shwoo shwoo shwoo," while making a twirling motion with his hand. That means he wants some whipped cream in a bowl. With craft time, he makes a squishy noise. That means he wants me to put dabs of glue on the paper so he can glue things on.
This week, our main outing was to the airplane museum. He loves that place. He loves to walk all around pointing to every single plane or helicopter and specifying which is which. This past time he insisted we watch the shows they have playing, which, I have to say, aren't super entertaining, especially for a three year old. However, he got ticked when I made him leave. I had to soothe him by telling him we'd watch an airplane show at home. He eventually cooperated enough so I could get him to the car, but the whole time he was whining and saying, "My airplane show...." Taking this kid anywhere is exhausting!
While dad Norton we decided to utilize his tools while we could. I have been wanting to give our bathroom mirrors a makeover ever since I saw this tutorial. So I sent the boys to Lowe's to get the baseboards. Tony cut them to size, and we got started on them earlier this week. After a little sanding and couple coats of paint, they'll be ready to be attached to the mirrors. Can't wait! Jon said this was his kind of DIY home project. Cheap and easy.
Two weeks ago for mutual I had the Beehives come to my house to learn to make strawberry freezer jam. It was messy, but fun. They each got to take a pint home. Plus, we had enough jars that we were able to take some around to the inactive girls and the Bishop.
All my active Beehives. It's pretty rare I get them all to an activity, so I was a little shocked- and unprepared- when they all showed up to make jam. I had to send my adviser to the store for more strawberries and pectin.
Last night we went and decorated the room of our current Beehive President who's having a birthday Tuesday and moving on to Mia Maids. She was at soccer practice, so I got the OK from her mom and we went to town on her room. We also made a big card (you can see it on the dresser) and left her a bag of cotton candy- her favorite treat. The girls had fun. I'll probably have to do it for all of them now when they turn 14!
