I have been waiting for this weekend for months. Really. The last time my mom and dad (Norton) were here (Thanksgiving?) dad said he'd come back at some point and build shelves for us in the garage. They have a similar setup in their garage, so I knew exactly what I would be getting, and I couldn't wait! We've been using our unfinished basement for storage, and of course getting what we could in the garage as well. Needless to say, it hasn't been too organized. The need for shelving became even more important once I got pregnant. Everything that had been in the spare room upstairs- mostly my craft stuff- got moved to the basement, making that area even more of a disaster. Of course, being in nesting mode, I was super excited to declutter and get things organized before the baby arrived. After I offered my mom an photo album that we received as a wedding gift, but have never used in six years, she said, "You're a minimalist!" HA! I wish! However, I am tired of storing things that we haven't used and don't plan to. And mom, you forgot the album! Anyways, they showed up Friday night, and first thing Saturday morning, the boys got to work in the garage.
Here are the beautiful shelves shortly after the boys finished. Hence the messy-tool filled garage.
The builder and his assistant.
Rowan had fun playing with the scrap wood. What did he build? Train tracks of course! And then papa Tony showed him how to karate chop them-sound effects and all. Rowan was very entertained with that.
Saturday night I invited Jon's parents to join us for dinner. It's not too often we can get our parents together, so I am glad their schedule was open. We had strawberry rhubarb pie for dessert. I hadn't had it for years and after seeing rhubarb at the grocery store, I had it on the brain and decided to try and make it. I was pleasantly surprised with the results. Definitely my new favorite warm fruit pie!
Sunday we had breakfast- overnight french toast, recipe courtesy of The Pioneer Woman- and finally at one headed off to church. We left after sacrament so that mom and dad could head into Salt Lake and visit more of their Utah family members. I fed them a quick dinner and off they went. I had Jon take a couple pictures of me and my momma before church. Mom is sporting her sweet arm sling and I am sporting a big ol' belly. We know how to work it for photos. That night, while mom and dad were gone, Jon and I were able to get the garage and basement somewhat organized. Love it.
Before mom and dad headed home Monday they wanted to see the new City Creek Mall. Jon had some work to do Monday morning and was out the door before we even had breakfast, so he didn't join us in SLC. We just walked around and checked the place out. Pretty fancy. The church doesn't mess around. Rowan loved the fish and the play area in the food court.
Grandma and Rowan.
We tried to take Rowan on trax but finally figured out that they weren't running today. Luckily Rowan didn't throw too big of a fit when he realized that we would not be riding a "train" since it was broken. Another time kid.
A couple more of grandma and Rowan Saturday morning playing with bubbles before the three of us headed out to run a couple errands while the boys worked. We had thought about checking out the air show, but the weather was so nasty that we opted to stay home. I am not sure if Rowan would have liked it anyways considering how loud they were flying over our house.
It was a great busy weekend. Thanks for coming down mom and dad. We LOVE the shelves.
