A bunch of sick-o's.

We can't get healthy over here!  It's been cold city in this house, and I am sick and tired of being sick and tired!  Sawyer had the usual cold symptoms, but remained his usual happy self.  That changed Saturday night when he woke up fussy and didn't go back to sleep.  The fussiness continued into the morning and afternoon.  I really knew something was up when I noticed him tugging at his ear and wanting to be held while he slept.  Lucky for us he had a well child visit scheduled for Monday morning.  We considered taking him to instacare, but by mid afternoon on Sunday he seemed happier, still sick, but not nearly as grumpy.  We decided to just hold off until he could see his doctor the next morning.  I loaded up the boys Monday morning and we headed to see Dr. Church.  Normally Rowan is pretty well behaved when I take him to the office, but this time he was a little pill, no, he was a big pill.  A very big pill.  It all started when we got called to go back to the room.  Rowan didn't want to leave the toys up front.  Course I am not just going to leave him up there, and so he followed, but his tantrum built all the way to the room.  Once inside, he was in full blown meltdown mode.  Kicking the door, shoe throwing, and screaming at the top of his lungs.  It was so bad that another nurse came in to offer assistance.  Oh boy.  She didn't stay.  It was all a blur, cause of course I was just focused on Rowan and trying my best to get him calmed down.  I hadn't brought the car seat in, so I had my hands full- literally!  The nurse offered to take Sawyer and get his clothes off so I could deal with Rowan.  I did eventually say that Rowan was autistic because I know some people wonder why I deal with him the way I do when he acts like that.  She must have known a thing or two about autistic children because while I was on the floor blocking hits from Rowan, she turned the lights off.  Some autistic children are sensitive to light.  I tried to answer her questions, regarding Sawyer, but it was difficult to hear her over Rowan.  There really isn't much you can do with Rowan when he's having one of his meltdowns.  It's almost like he's in a trance and nothing can snap him out of it.  You have to ignore him and wait for him to just calm down.  Eventually he had calmed down enough and I recognized that he was now ready for a hug and cuddles.  (This is the routine when he has meltdown)  Hallelujah- the meltdown was over.  Now we could get on with the examination.  Course the Doctor had heard Rowan's meltdown from wherever he was while it was going on.  Sawyer wasn't too happy when the doctor started poking around in his ears, and for good reason.  Poor little Sawyer has a double ear infection.  Between the various medications we have him on he seems to be feeling much better.
Welcome to Sawyer's sad little world right now.  He's actually been quite the champ through it all.  He really is an angel baby.
Waiting for the doctor.
 Sawyer and Doctor Church.
Still cute as ever even with a double ear infection.

I am getting over a head cold that has had me out of sorts for a good two weeks.  Course now that I am on the mend, Jon seems to be getting a cold again.  ARG!  And Rowan had quite the poopy day yesterday-pun intended.  SO GLAD Jon was off yesterday to help me.  I might have lost it had I been on my own.  So here's to hoping we're all feeling better by months end.

  1. Oh Honey, I'm so sorry you had to have such a bad day at the Dr.'s but you and Jon do such a GREAT job handling Rowan! My hats off to you for dealing with the situation so well! Poor Rowan! Someday soon he will be able to get through these things much better! I'm so glad Sawyer is such a good baby. I know the Lord knows our limits and therefore ...Sawyer! Hang in there. We love you all!
