The week before Halloween we had our Activity Days Halloween party. We usually try to alternate our activities between spiritual ones that will help the girls complete their Faith In God requirements, and fun ones where they can come and enjoy themselves and socialize with us and the other girls. We have a lot of girls who are from less active families, so we hope that alternating activities will keep them coming on a regular basis.
These are the two ladies I get to work with on activity days. Amy and Crystal. They're awesome and I have a lot of fun working with the two of them. And I found out recently that Amy's cousin is one of my good friends from high school. I never put it together cause Amy grew up in Vegas. Mariah is older and should be in YW, but she's not a member. She likes to come and help us, although she generally does everything our activity day aged girls do, and we let her because we want her to feel welcome.
We just had a lot of treats for the girls. Green punch, cupcakes, ghost crispies and Frankenstein crispies. And candy bags. Basically we loaded them up with sugar and sent them home. You're welcome parents!
Emerald, Zamiah, Laynee and Sariah.
Emily, Carmen and Myah.
Mariah, Hailey, Hadley, and Mia.
Shmizing.
(Smiling with your eyes.)
We played the "Who am I?" game
And Zamiah was the winner of candy jar after having the closest guess to how many pieces were in the jar.
Fun party. The time passes way too fast. Short and sweet is nice, but it's hard to squeeze everything into one hour when you're dealing with crazy cute 8-11 year olds! I really like my calling. The girls I serve with are super fun, and the girls we serve are adorable. Plus, it's fun to be around little girls every two weeks when I am normally surrounded by boys!
We have a lot on our shoulders. Our current YW group is very small, and many of the girls that will be going into the YW program in the next 1-3 years come from inactive families. So Amy, Crystal, and I certainly hope that as we work with these girls we will help their testimonies grow as well as their involvement in not only church activities, but church in general. If we fail we really wont have much of a YW organization in our ward if there aren't any girls to go! While this calling is pretty laid back in general, I still know it's an important one. Having come from a home with only one active parent, I know my mom had a lot on her shoulders when it came to getting five kids to church and church activities. I had great friends from good families, as well as wonderful leaders. I hope that I can be the kind of example that my leaders were to me for these girls. I hope they have a desire to come. I hope that they feel special and important while they are with us. I hope we get the guidance and help we need from the Lord to keep these girls on a path that will lead them to peace and happiness. And so we press on and try our best and hope that the Lord will do the rest.
