Jon and I are house sitting for the next 12 days and that means I have more then 5 channels to flip through on TV. I usually watch New Detectives or Forensic Files- however, I keep getting drawn to the Discovery Health Channel. It's like a drug- I know I should just say no, but I am addicted. You may be wondering what on earth is wrong with the Discovery Health channel. Well, let me tell you. For most humans this channel would be OK- even educational or interesting at the very least. Well, when you are 33 weeks pregnant and already thinking about labor and delivery WAY to much then this is definitely the last channel you want to or should be viewing. There are way too many shows dealing with pregnant woman giving birth- and it is usually not under the most pretty of circumstances. Needless to say I am now terrified to give birth and if I keep watching the channel I am bound to tell my doctor to knock me out and cut me open when it comes time to deliver. On the bright side the shows have at least left no doubt in my mind that I ABSOLUTELY want an epidural- the sooner I can get it the better. I really need to find some happy birth videos now to get myself on a different mindset- I need to get the screaming women, footling breech births, and all other traumatizing images out of my head...otherwise I may be doing all I can to keep this baby in- instead of getting him out!

Just Say NO

You can always just watch the Disney Channel - that's one of my favs!
ReplyDeleteI'll email ya... :-)
ReplyDeleteIn the meantime, start ignoring all "birth prep" stuff that isn't serene and calming. SERIOUSLY. It's NOT helpful.
Maybe Discovery *not Health* will have something about manatees... or there's always the History Channel! :-) HGTV? Food Network? Re-runs of Frasier? :-)
If they put happy easy births on TV, no one would watch them. :) I might have already told you, but my delivery went awesome. SO much easier than I ever expected. When it was over, I was like, what? I could do that 10 more times! But then I told my friend to not be worried and she had a really rough experience. So, I guess my point is, you just don't know what is going to happen, so it doesn't do a whole lot of good worrying about it. I know, easier said than done. Another thing, once you get closer to the date - like the week of, you will be so ready, you won't care what it takes. Trust me. Can't wait to hear your story!
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, it isn't really as dramatic as some of those women make it seem. Even though it is painful, it is the most amazing experience you'll ever have. Epiderals are nice, but I swear it slowed down my first delivery. Whatever you do, don't watch "The Business of Being Born" I watched that late in my pregnancy and freaked out.
ReplyDeleteHeather heather heather, I know what you mean. Every day I get closer to my due date I get even more nervous. Today I bought another pack of #1 diapers, and some overnight pads. I know that Im already a "mom" but I feel so un-prepared, thinking that Im actually going to have something come out of my vagina is scaring my to death!!! :) I already prepared this whole ordeal for Val but then it was like a joke, ha ha, oh you get a c-sec........
ReplyDeleteIm there with ya!!
Oh the epidural!! After two, the next time I have a baby I am getting it the minute I get there. Not because I feel any pain before. I don't really get labor "pains" They are more like mestral cramps. But seriously my delivery goes so fast as soon as I get that wonder drug. It took me weeks just to get to 2cm. after the epidural I go from 4-10 in a matter of 45 minutes.
ReplyDeleteLOL Heather! You are so funny. Most births go just fine so try not to worry (easy for me to say right?!).
