What I have learned this week

I am so thankful for my hard working husband. Thanks to him I can stay home with our sweet baby. Not only does he work long days at his FT job, but he also puts Rowan to sleep at night so I can get in 3 or 4 hours of solid sleep before I have to start getting up in the early a.m. hours with Rowan- and Rowan does not go to bed early. You know Jon is tired when he falls asleep before his "bedtime." (see pic. below)
Rowan is a cuddler. Which I love, but this little one insists on falling asleep in the arms of mom or dad. Don't even think about putting him down the second his eyes are closed. He wakes up instantly- and you have to start the whole process of getting him back to sleep all over.
I was a little upset when my glider that I have had for 2 weeks was accidentally broken by my dear husband. But I have to forgive him because as the first picture states he works hard to support his little family- so the least I can do is forgive his honest mistake. On the "to do" list tomorrow: try and return glider for new one since we have only had it two weeks and a new piece of furniture should be able to sustain a man sitting in it- and it is made to be sat in right?
Completing a novel may be a little more difficult these days. Rowan sleeps a good amount of the day but I am finding it difficult to get any reading done. Partly because I am tired and want to sleep when he sleeps and if I don't happen to be sleeping I am trying to get home chores done- thus putting my novel on the back burner. And sadly it's a book that I really want to read! Jon and I were both able to get some reading in this evening as Rowan caught some z's-100 pages down, only 300 to go!
My kitchen counter has been neglected. Mail is piling up, recyclables are ending up in the trash out of laziness, and I am beginning to store everything and anything on the counter simply because it has become the place to put things that don't have a home.
And why can't I find the time to tidy up the counter? Because most of my day is spent doing this- (see below pic.) SO I don't really care that my counter is looking uninviting because nothing is more important then spending this special time with my little baby. Because before I know it he will not be so little and there will be plenty of time for the counter then- when he's too busy to cuddle with mom.
I do A LOT of laundry these days. And since I am changing Rowan's clothes multiple times a day I find it easier just to put his clean clothes in the crib where they are easily accessible. Never mind putting them where they go in the closet- I'll do that when he actually starts using sleeping in his crib. For now I view it (his crib) as one big dresser drawer that is constantly open.
I hate when I buy the ingredients to a recipe that looks and sounds good, make it, and are totally disappointed in the outcome. Not only did I waste money on the ingredients but now I have a whole cake that probably not get eaten.
After you wash Rowan's hair it goes into a mohawk of its own freewill if you don't comb it. I love it.

Some other random things I have learned:

I like my Aquafresh toothpaste to be squeezed from the bootom- that way all the different layers do not get smooshed together. However, getting Jon to squeeze from the bottom is near impossible. So now the toothpaste I squeeze onto my brush is an ugly gray color.

I could survive (happily) off of Pepsi, Sweedish Fish, and Gummi Bears.

  1. What a cute boy! Sadly, my kitchen counters look like that even when I don't have a newborn. Hope the glider gets fixed soon!

  3. Oh yay! Getting into "real early mommy-hood" - storing the clothes in the crib totally works! :-)

That's the essence of life with a newborn - just keep everyone alive :-). You might try a sling if he's always wanting to be held; there are lots of styles, some of which might work better than others... but that way you can at least move a little and do stuff standing up, LOL.

Or you can just not, and enjoy being permanently attached to your snuggler! :-) (I think they're designed to be held constantly, anyway, for the first month or two, at least...)

Oh - and for when he's a little older and has feeding down, nursing time is GREAT book time! :-)

Good luck returning the glider! (That kind of construction should definitely be return-able...) Love you all!!! :-)

  4. what an awesome time for you guys. I'm glad that you already have figured out the importance of your little one and the time that they stay little. Who cares about the house, let it go to pot. Just hold and love your little one, he is adorable.

  5. Yes, enjoy the cuddling. Owen didn't even do it when he was that little! This time that you're in was for me the hardest part of having a baby. Forget labor - its the lack of sleep/time to yourself that is soooo hard on ya. I remember wondering if I would EVER again be able to sleep for at least 4 hours straight! But, luckily, it does get better. So much better. Of course, you have it right, you have to enjoy each minute - you'll never get them back!

By the way, he is super cute. Love the mohawk!

  9. How annoying, I posted something to this a couple of hours ago but for some reason my internet connection blew and was r-e-a-l-l-y s-l-o-w, I wasnt sure if it would post or not and it didnt, blast!
Do I ever know what your counter top looks like. When I went back to work after having Val sometimes our WHOLE house looked like it. Im sure the tops will look like that soon after Jackson comes and until I get back onto schedule with my zzzzz's.
I agree with you guys in taking the glider back, its only 2 weeks old? Its not Jon's fault its the manufacturer's fault for building it soooo poorly. I would be soo bummed though.
I totally agree with you and the aquafresh, I just bought some the other day just because it was less expensive and I want to stock up. I usually dont like to get it because ours turns gray too. Surprisingly a gray paste makes white teeth. How does that add up?
