Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

I admit it.
I like things.
I like things I don't necessarily need to survive.
I like the way a pretty new outfit makes me look and feel.
I like the way things on my walls makes my house feel like a home.
I like things in my home to match and coordinate.
I like to buy things for the ones I love even if it's not a special occasion.
I like things.
Admitted.
BUT as much as I like things I also know that they come from somewhere and they go somewhere when I am done with them. That is why I follow the three R's. You got it folks- REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE.
While a new table would be nice, I chose to "re-invent" my old one. (I'll post a picture soon)
While buying a new couch would be the easy route I am choosing to reupholster my old one.
It would be easy just to toss all my "trash" in the dumpster, but I take the time to sort my trash and make a trip to the recycle bins weekly.
If I had a yard I would have a compost area.
I hope the old clothes I donate are finding a new home in someone's closet.
I'm not perfect. I don't do it all. I could do more. But I do do something. We all can and we all need to. See storyofstuff.com for more info on what you can do to help and why it is so important that we all lend a helping hand. (Thanks for telling me about the site Tori).
Couldn't agree more!!!!! We do have a yard and so we compost everything, it really cuts down on the garbage that we produce for our trash man to take. For a family of 5 we only empty our trash once a week and we have one of those smaller trash bags, not the huge ones. We only put out our trash every other week along with our recycling. Ryan has really gotten me into it. We even recycle the inside of the toilet paper roll.
ReplyDeleteYou rock!!! When the recycling was collected, I recycled EVERYTHING I could - and yes, you have very little trash that way, nowadays! But now we'd have to find space (which we don't have) to store it around the apt. until I make a special trip to the recycling place (which I'm loath to do...)
ReplyDeleteOr maybe we should just leave it on our back porch and it'll get stolen! ;-)
Yeah! You're welcome. I'm glad you liked it. That website has seriously changed my life.
ReplyDeleteThat pic is awesome! Did you take it? And if so can I paint it sometime!??!?! :)
