Sawyer Jon.

We welcomed our second baby boy on August 5th, 2012 at 8:30 am. I was
scheduled for an induction at 39 weeks, due to the fact that my doctor and mom were both going out of town right before my due date. I was suppose to go in to the
hospital at 7 am on the 5th, but I got a call from the hospital on the
evening of the 4th asking if I could come in as soon as possible since
the hospital was going to be shorthanded on the 5th. Exciting, but
unexpected, and even though it was less than 12 hours from when I was
originally suppose to be there I still hadn't packed my bags. I threw
my things together and Jon, my mom, Rowan, and myself were off. First
we had to drop Rowan off at papa Larson's house. Shortly after 10:30 pm
we were at the hospital and things were underway. I think everyone
thought things would progress quicker than they did, but in the end
everyone ended up having cat naps at the hospital. Grandma Larson slept
her car, grandma Norton in the lobby, and Jon in my room on the fold
out couch. I was still dilated to a 3 and 70% effaced, which meant I hadn't progressed anymore on my own since my previous doctor's appointment. I was given the pitocin and by 3 am I was feeling some discomfort. The nurse came in said the anesthesiologist was around and available to give me my epidural if I wanted it. Knowing that I was in for a long night, and wouldn't be delivering until the morning, I thought it was a good idea and went ahead and got the goods. I could have easily slept once I got the epidural, but between
nurses checking on me, and the stinking blood pressure cuff going on
every 20 minutes, sleeping wasn't easy-oh, and I started to feel nauseaous. I blame the pitocin. I puked a couple times throughout the night, and once after Sawyer was born, so that was kind of a bummer. No fun puking with an audience. I was watching the clock and
waiting for 7am to roll around. I was hoping my doctor would arrive by
then to break my water. Things wouldn't really speed up until that
happened. She never showed, and in the end my water broke on it's
own while the nurse was moving me around, something she said had never happened before. I couldn't feel it, but I do remember hearing a gush and then the nurse told me what had happened. Apparently the bed and floor were soaked. Needless to say, once the water broke, things did speed up. I went from a 5 to a 9
in no time flat! Once I reached a 10 it was just a matter of waiting
for the doctor to arrive. As soon as she got there it was showtime.
Daddy and both our mom's took their positions- at the top of the bed.
Imagine my surprise when after three pushes our little man was out and
on my chest. Surprising since I pushed for a good two hours with his
older brother. And just like that I was a mommy again. Aside from the puking and expected discomforts of giving birth, it all went well.
 |
| We decided to invite our moms to witness the birth this time. It was nice having them there, and, to my surprise, I wasn't self-conscious when it came time to push. |
 |
| Proud mommy and daddy. |
 |
| Grandpa Larson and Rowan came to the hospital Sunday afternoon. Rowan was excited to see and meet his little brother, but once he realized he could have all the pop and crackers he wanted from the snack section he soon lost interest in the baby. |
 |
| Happy to have my baby here safe and sound. |
 |
| I have a very similar picture of Jon with Rowan like this, so I thought it would be fun to get one of daddy and Sawyer. |
 |
| All smiles after getting the drugs. |
 |
| This is my second nurse, Andrea. LOVED her. She was so awesome. She actually ended up missing the birth because there were numerous girls giving birth at the same time, and she ran over to help some other girl who she thought would deliver first. |
 |
| My first nurse, Jennifer. She was with me until 5 am. |
|
 |
| Heading home, where the real adventure awaits, Tuesday afternoon. |
Congratulations! Such a sweet baby and brother. I was sick during my first labor (blamed the pitocin) so I told the nurses first thing at my subsequent labors and they put something in my IV to fix it. Worked like a charm. Glad you weren't too miserable!
