After finishing my first half marathon in September I was anxious to sign up for another one. I didn't want to lose the momentum, so I quickly began looking for another run. When I saw one for the SLC haunted half I was super excited. It sounded fun, was relatively cheap to register, and it was at the end of October. Perfect. I got two girls from church and a my sister in law Kelly to sign up with me. And just like that I was back to running three times a week and getting ready for my 2nd half marathon.
Kelly and Lindsay kicked butt and finished in under 1:50 .
This dude was wandering around at the start line. Course we had to get a picture with him.
Killing time before the race started. We had to load the shuttle buses by 7:30, and the race started at 9. Of course we got on the bus that took the wrong turn and took us on the "scenic route." That was interesting. We were all getting pretty antsy and were relieved too get off the bus after an hour or so.
After hitting the honey buckets we began to get ready for the run. Jessica and I headed back to where the 2:20 pacer was as that was my goal time. Soon enough it was time to begin.
I really liked this run. The hills weren't my favorite, but aside from those it was a really pretty run. I loved running by the campus and The Avenues. Surprisingly, the last two miles were my favorite. I knew I was going to meet my goal, so I was happy.
2:15:33 compared to 2:24:14. Wahoo!
I might run one more 1/2 with my mother-in-law in November, but it's a virtual one. A little different, but you still get bling! I guess I am kind nervous about stopping- don't want to lose the momentum! And having a 1/2 to run every month keeps me running 3 days a week. Not sure what I am going to do come winter and no 1/2's to run! Suggestions?

The reality of living in Utah is cold running winters. It's always a test to see if we're willing to keep it up. And sometimes it's just too cold. Just keep up your running until spring even if you don't have any more races. Good job on your PR. I wish I could cut 9 minutes off a half. Not going to happen. It was a fun race and we'll have to do it again next year.
ReplyDeleteWell, I can't promise I will run outside in the winter, but hopefully I will at least keep it up on the treadmill! Be slow like me and you can shave time off! :0) I wish I were finishing in under two hours- not going to happen! If I manage two hours flat down the road I will be amazed! I totally want to do it again next year.
DeleteThat's awesome Honey!!! So proud of you!! I use to love running when we lived in Billings. Do you remember that? Those were the days! lol
ReplyDeleteI don't remember that mom- but I don't remember much from the Montana days! From the pictures, I believe you!
